Reference against Benazir condemned

06 Jun, 2006

Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leaders Malik Liaquat Ali Dogar, MNA, Begum Nasim Chaudhry, MNA and Khurshid Ahmed have condemned registering another reference against PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto and termed it a tactic by frustrated rulers to break the Opposition, which had signed the Charter of Democracy (CoD) in London.
In a joint statement issued here on Monday just before leaving for Islamabad to attend the Budget session, they said the NAB was silent when the PPP denied the accusation of wrongdoing.
They said the NAB filed a case in a local court in Islamabad accusing Benazir Bhutto of declaring her wrong assets before the chief election commissioner in 1993, adding that had not even been questioned by the Election Commission.
They said it all happened when the two former prime ministers again met in London and signed the 'charter of democracy' to launch a movement for the ouster of the present regime.
