90 power thieves arrested

Various teams of Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) sub-divisions have conducted raids in Pakgate, Cantonment, Mumtazabad, Garden Town, Bosan, Manzoorabad and other areas of the Multan city and apprehended 90 consumers red-handed while stealing power, a spokesman of Mepco said.
Mostly the power thieves have installed split air-conditioners in their homes to beat the heat, said the spokesman. The Mepco teams imposed a total fine of Rs 500,000 on these power thieves. The special teams also cut off power connections of these 90 consumers under the Electricity Act. A Pakgate subdivision team caught 20 consumers for power theft and fined them Rs 120,000 while another team caught six others in Cantt subdivision and fined them Rs 15,000.
Similarly, a Mepco team caught 18 consumers in Mumtazabad subdivision and fined them Rs 85,000. Garden Town subdivision team caught 17 consumers and fined them Rs 80,000 while Bosan subdivision team caught 24 consumers and fined them Rs 175,000. A Manzoorabad subdivision team caught 15 consumers and fined them Rs 90,000.
