The City District Council Karachi (CDCK) has adopted eight important resolutions forwarded by the treasury bench with the majority of votes while the opposition cast votes against all of them here on Thursday.
The City District Council meeting was held here at the City Council Hall presided over by the senior presiding officer Masood Mehmood in the absence of Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil.
The presiding officer resumed the debate on the resolution on the up-gradation of the group of offices of the Law Department of the city government, which was approved in the last council meeting. On a point of order, several opposition members raised questions on the resolution about the up-gradation of the group of offices of the Law Department of the city government.
They were of the view that the organogram of the group of offices of the Law Department had been proposed by the treasury bench was illegal and should be brought up first in the council for discussion and only then be adopted. Rejecting the resolution, they opined that the CDGK had already recruited the lawyers for the required posts while the resolution was brought up after that in the council for adoption, which was illegal.
Justifying the resolution members from the treasury bench said that city government had a shortage of lawyers to properly fight several cases of city government pending in the various courts, the incumbent city government felt it was necessary to hire lawyers to fight the pending cases.
The resolution was adopted by a majority of votes while opposition members cast their votes against the resolution. Through a majority of votes seven other resolutions forwarded by the treasury benches were also adopted despite opposition in the council.
