Directorate of National Savings Director General Ahmed Awais Pirzada said on Thursday that transformation process to convert National Savings into a corporate body was in the final stage.
Speaking in a PTV programme, he said that Prime Minister had approved the law in that regard which after approval by the federal cabinet would be presented before the parliament. He hoped the process would be completed soon.
He said that enhancement of profit rates announced in the budget would be applicable on all saving schemes. The details are being collected and in a couple of days the instructions would be issued in this regard, he said.
To a question, he said the decision would cover the new investors adding the old account holders could benefit by renewing their account. For that purpose they had to pay marginal amount of penalty, he said.
To another question, he said there were 367 outlets of national savings countrywide with around four million account holders. He said a large number of people were benefiting from saving schemes through commercial banks and post offices.
He said all citizens above 60 years could benefit from Behbood Saving Scheme. To an audience's question, he said a new branch of National Savings would become functional in Skardu soon.
