10 Jun, 2006

Taiwan's imports of corn and wheat in 2006/2007 will decline slightly, but the United States will continue to command most of the market share for both commodities, according to a US Agriculture Department attache report released on Friday.
The attache said corn imports would fall to 4.85 million metric tonnes in 2006/07 from 4.9 million tonnes the prior season. The United States will be responsible for 4.66 million tonnes of Taiwan's corn imports in 2006/07.
Taiwan also estimated imports of wheat would be 1.05 million tonnes, down from 1.10 million tonnes in 2005/06. About 900,000 tonnes of the 2006/07 total will be from the United States. Attache reports are not official USDA data.
Taiwan's demand for corn imports in 2006/07 is forecast at 4.85 million metric tonnes.
