City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that city District Government Karachi (CDGK) in collaboration with Indian companies would establish 1000 call centres in the city.
This he said while talking to the South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) delegation at a lunch hosted in their honour by the CDGK here at the Naib Nazim Secretariat (Old KMC Building) on Monday.
Members of the visiting Indian delegation, members of SAFMA include co-ordinator SAFMA Dr Jabbar Khatak, and Dr Sunjay Desh, provincial advisor for Information and archives Sallahuddin Haider, provincial ombudsmen Yousuf jamal, Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil and people from print and electronic media were present on the occasion.
He said due to the investment friendly policies of the incumbent City District Government Karachi (CDGK), the foreign companies had invested in three projects worth more than Rs 60 billion in the metropolis. He said the initiation of such mega projects would ensure the provision of employment to more than 30,000 skilled youth.
Regarding Pakistan-India relations, Mustafa Kamal said good relations between both countries were the need of the hour in order to sort out their problems.
Dispelling the impression, he said peace had been restored in Karachi. He pointed out that some state-enemies were trying to depict Pakistan as violence hit country through propaganda contrary to reality, adding that Pakistan was playing her part against terrorism as a frontline state.
Expressing satisfaction, he said during last three years, in collaboration with police the Sindh government had successfully reined in the terrorists and seized several kilograms of gunpowder planted for destroying the city.
He said a water filter plant was planned for Karachi to recycle the sewerage water. He also briefed the Indian delegation about several continuing uplift projects being carried out in the city.
He said the CDGK was planning to fully introduce the public private ownership to involve the private sector in the development of the city. "Those uplift projects initiated in collaboration with Malaysian and Indian firms were being completed successfully." He maintained.
The City Nazim apprised the visiting guests about the district government set-up and council proceedings. Welcoming the Indian delegation on behalf of Karachiites, City Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil termed the visit of the Indian delegation to Pakistan as a "good omen". She said the Lahore-Amritsar bus service and Khokrapar-Monabao train service had helped the people from both sides to meet their relatives living on either side of the border.
Member of SAFMA Sunjay Desh said that Mumbai was alone generating 60 percent of total GDP of India while 55 percent of people were living in katchi abadis.
He hoped that with the improvement of relations, the joint ventures for development would take place.
