Partly Facetious: so much wrong, all in the name of right

13 Jun, 2006

"There seems to be so much injustice and insensitivity in this world, so much action taken in the name of right that is patently wrong."
"You are referring to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?"
"Indeed I am. The Israelis kill seven members of a family while they picnic. The Prime Minister 'regrets' the incident and says he will not take responsibility till they conclude an inquiry which is hardly likely to be impartial."
"That's right. All other inquiries have proved to be biased in favour of the Israeli troops."
"Then in response to statements like regret and inquiry Hamas declares the end of the 16-month truce..."
"How can you simply say regret and forget it all?"
"Acceptable to Bush and his Poodle Blair - God's chosen if they are to be believed."
"Anyway then the story gets worse. As Hamas lugs some missiles into Israel..."
"Which gets greater publicity then the seven innocent shot dead brutally by an army, armed by the US."
"Right and then in response Israel talks of terrorism and insists on their right to respond with their sophisticated helicopter gunships."
"Meanwhile, the Palestinian President wants a referendum to accept the two state option..."
"What would be in that for the Palestinians?"
"More degradation, more killings by the Israelis without doubt! Don't think they will ever get land or the right to rule themselves. Remember the sell-out by Yasir Arafat of his own people when he agreed not to allow the Palestinians in exile the right to return."
"And look what the Israelis and the Americans did to him."
"Why can't the world look at this conflict as it should be looked at? The aggressor, the stronger of the two..."
"Hush, you maybe accused of being anti-Semitic."
"I am not anti-Semitic. I think the Jewish people suffered greatly during the Nazi era. And I would not wish that on my worst enemy. But at the same time we must not mistake Semitism with the state of Israel."
"But that is a blur and the blur is by Israeli politicians."
"Why don't the Palestinians understand that?"
"No, one does. Power corrupts, and let us be honest the media helps the powerful in today's world."
"I guess one has to look at conflict anywhere in the world..."
"Precisely."
