The increase in funds for the government's food support programme under Baitul Maal from Rs 1,200 to Rs 3,000 per annum will go a long way to help alleviate poverty and provide relief to low-income groups.
This was stated by Member of Provincial Assembly Khizar Ilyas Virk while talking to newsmen here on Monday. He said the increase would facilitate needy and deserving segments including widows, orphans and the disabled.
He said the government was working with complete sincerity within its resources to serve the masses, by providing financial aid to destitutes, scholarships to needy and meritorious students, and relief to the common man through provision of essential commodities at reasonable rates despite inflationary trends world-wide.
