'No curfew imposed in Bara'

14 Jun, 2006

Fata Secretariat on Tuesday said neither curfew had been clamped on Bara Tehsil of Khyber Agency nor tribesmen were demanding withdrawal of forces from the area, says a press release of the Secretariat.
Clarifying reports carried in a section of the press, a spokesman of Fata Secretariat termed it as baseless and unfounded the impression created by these reports alleging that curfew has been imposed in Bara Tehsil of Khyber Agency and that the tribesmen were demanding withdrawal of the forces from the area.
The spokesman clarified that neither curfew was imposed nor forces were deployed in Bara. He added that whatever action was underway that is in accordance with tribal customs and norms in which local Khasadars and personnel of Frontier Corps are taking part.
They were performing their duties under the existing political system for ensuring rule of law, maintaining peace and order and enforcement of the government writ in the area, the statement added.
It is also clarified that no operation was going on in Bara. However, law enforcement agencies were engaged in curbing the elements, who had challenged the government's authority by taking the law into their hands, the spokesman concluded.
