China likely to set up engineering University in Pakistan: Atta

Wide ranging collaboration with China in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, geology and engineering is in the offing as Professor Dr Atta-ur-Rahman, Chairman, Higher Education Commission and Advisor to the Prime Minister for Science and Technology, is conducting meetings with Chinese counterparts during his current trip to China, an official statement said on Thursday.
Dr Atta-ur-Rahman, who is also President of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences In his meeting with the Education Minister and other top government officials and presidents of various science & engineering universities, and of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other officials, discussed the possibility of an engineering university in association with China.
Latter would be expected to provide vice-chancellor for the proposed university, deans, top professors and a system of quality control of highest level. China's collaboration is also being sought in setting up technology parks, technology incubators and entrepreneurship promotion centres. In further meetings with Secretary General of China Scholarship Council (CSC) and officials of Ministry of Education, the HEC chairman discussed the possibility of strengthening the centres of excellence in Pakistan through linkages with Chinese institutions involving exchange of scientists, joint supervision of research, provision of equipment, training of Pakistani scientists and technicians in Chinese institutions.
