Need stressed to improve engineers' skills

Chairman Technology Upgradation and Skill Development Company (Tusdec) Almas Hyder has stressed the need for focusing on improving the skills of engineers and designers and enhancing the quality of designing.
He said that focus would also be laid down on quality of engineering and manufacturing of local tools, dies and moulds through latest technology, including Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE).
According to a press release issued on Thursday he was addressing a seminar on 'Future Tools, Dies and Moulds Manpower Development' organised by Karachi Tools, Dies, and Moulds Centre (KTDMC).
An expert from Thai German Institute, Bangkok, Thailand, Manop Thongsaeng, was the keynote speaker. He made a comprehensive presentation on the subject and discussed topics related to skills required for dynamic tools, dies & moulds industry with the representatives of local engineering industries and training institutes.
The expert focused mainly on importance of skill standards for the engineering industry, formation and implementation of skill standards, and skill assessment system.
