Rain emergency plan: final shape given to vehicular traffic handling in Karachi

Final shape has been given to the vehicular traffic handling plan for the expected rain emergency in the city of Karachi by the Traffic Police, Karachi, says a press release of the Director Press of the Karachi Police.
The plan has been drawn in keeping with the directives issued by IG Jahangir Mirza to DIG Traffic to draw up plans for uninterrupted flow of traffic during the expected monsoons in the city.
The DIG traffic had asked all the traffic sections of police officers to report on the spots where rain water accumulates in the roads and side streets to facilitate proper traffic emergency movement plan in the monsoons. Accordingly during rains all traffic sections will remain on high alert and in communication with one another on wireless and will also highlight roads going underwater and the alternate roads, which will be opened for traffic in such emergency. Traffic helpline on 915 and complaints will be received on 134 without delay and rectification undertaken.
Similarly, vehicles affected by the rain water and rendered out of order shall be removed from the road without delay to ensure traffic flow. Breakdown vans will be on duty.
The traffic SPs will maintain constant liaison in case of rain emergency with the Meteorological office to have update on rains and accordingly take corrective and preventive measures. All efforts will be made to make emergency traffic handling arrangements foolproof, according to plan.
