Niall Booker, Regional Head for Middle East region of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), called on Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Dr Salman Shah here on Thursday. Booker is currently visiting Pakistan for the opening of a branch of the HSBC in Islamabad.
During the meeting, Salman Shah told Booker that Pakistan has a market-driven economy and competitiveness was the hallmark of its economic policies.
The adviser said that the banking sector in Pakistan was rapidly growing and about 85 percent of the existing financial institutions were run by the private sector.
He informed Niall Booker that vast scope and opportunities were available for the expansion of banking sector in view of persisting growth and development in various sectors of economy. Salman asked him to prepare a strong business plan, as HSBC would make profitable returns like other foreign banks operating in the country.-PR
