After a mysterious disappearance of four months, Jacobabad police on Thursday produced missing reporter of a private TV channel, Mukesh Rupeta, in a local court.
Mukesh Rupeta was handed over by some law-enforcement agencies to the airport police Wednesday night, which lodged an FIR against him under charges of having a fake national identity card and passport and shooting a film in a sensitive area.
The police on Thursday presented handcuffed Mukesh Rupeta before the court of additional sessions judge Hafiz Attaur Rehman Shaikh for remand. The court, considering the health condition of Mukesh Rupeta, sent him to the jail ward of hospital on a seven-day remand. A large number of journalists, social and political activists and family members of Rupeta were present in the court. Police said on Thursday they had arrested the journalist in March while allegedly filming a military base used by US forces.
Mukesh Rupeta, a correspondent for a local private television channel, and another person named Sanjay Kumar were arrested under the Official Secrets Act, Manzoor Khoso, a police officer in Jacobabad, said.
