People hailing from different walks of life, while expressing their concern over environmental degradation in the City, have announced to launch 'save the trees on Lahore canal' campaign.
A group of people belonging to various civil society organisations and groups have formed a body 'Lahore Bachao' (Save Lahore), to exert pressure on the authorities concerned for stopping cutting of trees from the canal. On Thursday, dozens of activists of 'Lahore Bachao' gathered outside the local press club.
They demanded from authorities concerned to stop cutting of the trees from the canal. They were holding placards in favour of their demands. Architect and conservationist Kamil Khan Mumtaz said on the occasion that trees and greenery were identity of Lahore. He said they would create awareness among the citizens about the importance of trees. He further said that cutting of trees not only harm the water table recharging zones but also cause lung, skin and ENT diseases.
