Shaukat reaffirms support to Kashmiris

26 Jun, 2006

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said on Sunday Pakistan will continue to extend its full moral, political and diplomatic support to the cause of Kashmiris until a just and honourable settlement of the Kashmir dispute is found acceptable to the people of Kashmir.
The Prime Minister made these remarks while talking to AJK Muslim Conference president Sardar Atique Ahmad, who called on him at the Prime Minister's house.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan has made it unambiguously clear that a sustainable and lasting peace in South Asia will remain elusive until a solution to the Kashmir dispute acceptable to the people of Kashmir, Pakistan and India is found. Pakistan, he said, has made several suggestions, including demilitarisation and self-governance as the basis of discussion with India.
These out of the box proposals do not mean abandoning or even abridging the right of Kashmir. We are convinced that a solution, not in accord with the wishes and aspirations of the Kashmiri people will not last, he added.
Sardar Atique thanked the Prime Minister for Pakistan's consistent and principled support for the Kashmiri's which, he said, will never be forgotten.
He also thanked the Prime Minister for Pakistan's generous support to the people of AJK after the disastrous earthquake of last October.
The way the people and the government of Pakistan and its army rose to extend their helping hand to Kashmiris will remain forever etched in our memories, he said.
