Sindh Chief Minister's Inquiries & Inspection Team (CMIT) has somehow detected that 30,000 tons wheat, worth Rs 310 million, has been infested by weevils in the Landhi godown, because of substandard fumigation.
The CMIT inspected the Landhi godown where imported wheat has been stored. It found that weevils have eaten up the grain to such an extent that every 100 kg bag contains over 10 kilo grams of powder. The sample of the grain has been sent to PCSIR and Pakistan Agriculture & Research Centre for lab tests to determine that whether the grain is suitable for human consumption.
The Food Department told CMIT that they had fumigated the grain properly, but after lab test fumigated sample being found fake which department had purchased for Rs 1.1 million.
