All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA) has termed increase in the prices of locally manufactured caustic soda as gross contravention of norms of monopoly and cartels.
This was contended by Dr Arshad A.Vohra, Chairman All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA), and Sheikh Mohammad Saeed, co-chairman Caustic Soda Standing Committee APTPMA, in a joint statement, here on Wednesday.
Elaborating their contention, the signatories of the PR reiterated that Caustic Soda (Liquid, Flakes and Solid) is an essential ingredient for the Textile Processing Industry, which is being manufactured in Pakistan by two influential groups, Sitara Chemicals Industries Ltd, Faisalabad and Ittehad Chemicals Ltd, Kala Shah Kaku, who are enjoying the benefit of "protective duty" to the tune of 25 percent on solid/flakes and additionally Rs 7,000/- PMT regulatory duty on liquid caustic soda, although the normal rate of import duty on textile chemicals at present has been reduced by the government from 5 to 10 percent, which was previously ranging from 25 to 30 percent respectively.-PR
