Rs 495.577 million Potohar Town budget presented

Hamid Nawaz Raja, Nazim Potohar Town on Wednesday presented a surplus budget of Rs 495.577 million in the Town Assembly for the fiscal year 2006-07 of which a major chunk of Rs 396.22 million has been allocated for development.
The town assembly met here with Chaudhary Farooq Ahmed, Convenor and Naib Nazim, in the chair. Giving details of the budget, Hamid Nawaz said that the allocated development expenditure for the fiscal year 2006-07 is Rs 396.22 million while non-development expenditure is Rs 80.618 million.
Reiterating his resolve for provision of basic facilities, he said that the town government would make all efforts to provide pure drinking water, health and education facilities to the people.
Giving details of the budget Hamid Nawaz said that Potohar Town would have a saving of Rs 314.187 at the end of 2005-06 and the expected revenue from different taxes was estimated as Rs 181-309 million for 2006-07. He said that out of Rs 80.618 million non-development expenditures, Rs 51,473 million were allocated for salaries and other expenses of the employees of the town while Rs 20.945 million have been allocated for miscellaneous expenditures and Rs 8.2 million were allocated for other expenses.
Giving a break down of Rs 396.22 million development expenditure, the Nazim said that Rs 60 million were allocated for annual development programme (ADP), Rs 20 million for Citizens Community Board, Rs 57.92 million to meet Citizens Community Board previous year arrears, Rs 169.365 million for ongoing development projects of ADP and CM package and Rs 6.5 million for maintenance. He said that Rs 313.857 million would be spent for development from the budget of Potohar Town while Rs 50 million from CM package (construction), Rs 20 million from MPA Grant (construction) and Rs 12.345 million from development funds for slums.
Hamid Nawaz told the house that during next fiscal year, Rs 1 million would be spent in every union council on the proposals of Naib Nazim, while members on special seats would be given Rs 0.5 million as development funds.
He said that every female councillor would be given Rs 0.5 million as development funds.
The house has deferred the purchase of 1300cc car of Rs 884,500 for town nazim and members said that in spite of Honda a Toyota car for Rs 873,000 is feasible to save a little money.
