Contract doctors

29 Jun, 2006

Apropos of a recent news item that appeared in a section of press, regarding regularisation of the service of doctors on contract, I would like to draw your attention to a very important issue.
The government of Punjab had appointed some doctors in various positions on contract, some time ago. These appointments, as one would understand, were mainly to serve nepotism. By these careless appointments, some very senior and competent doctors/medical professors in government jobs for the past 20 to 30 years, have been badly hit as despite their meritorious careers, they have been superseded by juniors.
As if that was not enough, the Punjab government has now announced regularisation of all those contract positions. This cruel act tantamounts to damaging the careers of those doctors who rendered meritorious services.
The PMA appears to be a party to this ghastly act, as it appears full of appreciation for this step by the government, which has afflicted harm to the careers of the already regular doctors.
I would therefore humbly request those at the helm of affairs in the Punjab government to abolish this unjust decision. This would go a long way to upholding the principle of justice and fair play.
