The Australian Wool Exchange (AWEX) said its eastern market indicator (EMI) fell two cents to 747c a kg clean in the first sale of the new season on Tuesday. AWEX said its northern indicator, at the only sale of the day in Sydney, dropped 5 cents to 766c/kg.
Merino types were generally 5 to 10 cents cheaper compared to last Thursday, though a limited selection of 22 microns and broader closed firm. Odd lower style and shorter types of merino skirtings eased slightly, while others remained generally unchanged. Crossbreds of 26 and 27 microns were slightly dearer.
Of the 11,012 bales offered, 11.9 percent were passed in. Sales will resume in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle on Wednesday with about 33,386 bales on offer.
