07 Jul, 2006

Speakers at a function organised by People Lawyers Forum (PLF) have said that Charter of Democracy (CoD) would prove milestone for democracy in the country.
The speakers including Sajjad Bokhari, Syed Manzoor Ali Gillani, Naveed Chaudhry, Hamid Khan, Fakharunnisa Khokhar and Sajida Mir said that CoD has become the voice of the people of Pakistan, as 13 parties of ARD have signed it.
It was for the first time that political parties in Pakistan have made a commitment with the people of Pakistan in black and white for waging struggle against the usurpers and strengthening the political governments.
They were of the view that CoD would strengthen the democratic institutions and also stop the usurper to topple an elected government. They demanded return of political leaders from abroad so that they could participate in the general elections.
They said that political leaders should adopt clear stand about the military generals, army budget and military financial institutions, adding they said that time has come for unity in the ranks of democratic forces so as to restore democracy in its true form.
