The Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) on Wednesday castigated National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Lieutenant General Shahid Aziz (Retd) for not showing up at the recent meeting of Senate's Standing Committee on Housing and Works' on the Chamba House issue.
PPPP Central Information Secretary Sherry Rehman, in a statement, charged that the so-called NAB gurus were not ready for their own accountability for committing illegal action.
She questioned the logic behind NAB chief skipping the Senate committee's Monday meeting on the 'occupation of Chamba House' in Lahore. The MNA called upon NAB to vacate the residential quarters, meant for the use of parliamentarians.
Sherry Rehman alleged that the NAB officials have been occupying the Chamba House since 1999 and are not prepared to vacate it even after the 'restoration of sham democracy' in 2002.
By resisting calls for ending the occupation, she asked what message was being sent to the masses. "Are not NAB people answerable to the Parliament?" she questioned. She said that NAB's functioning totally belied President General Musharraf's claim of across the board accountability and transparency.
Sherry Rehman called for packing up the Bureau and replacing it with an accountability set-up with even-handed approach.
