CBOT rice closes firm in thin trade

Chicago Board of Trade rough futures closed firm on Friday after a series of technical moves, with prices choppy but keeping within recent ranges, traders said. But trade was light amid a lack of market news. July rice closed 2 cents higher at $9.25 per hundredweight.
The deferreds were up 1 to 2-1/2 cents. An estimated 572 futures and 35 options traded, compared to 762 futures that traded on Thursday. US weekly export sales report was released on Friday delayed one day due to the US holiday this week.
USDA reported that 50,600 tonnes of US rice were sold for export last week, up 15 percent from the previous week. In the delivery market, they're 100 July rice deliveries issued by the ADM house account. There were stopped by a customer of ADM. Traders had been expecting the deliveries.
