Aga Khan University Hospital achieved another milestone in endoscopic surgery when its team of doctors led by a professor from Malaysia, successfully operate on a ten-day old baby who had a life threatening respiratory emergency.
Born on June 21 at AKUH, Baby Zaidi had developed a rare condition called bilateral choannal atresia, which made her unable to breathe from her nose. As neonates do not breathe from their months the baby's life was in danger and immediate surgical intervention was required.
This unique surgery is a step forward for AKUH where doctors and staff have gained valuable experience in neonatal and endoscopic surgery.
One of the few teaching hospitals in the world to be ISO 9001, certified, AKUH provides high quality clinical service.
