The Transport and Communication Department (TCD) of City Government will resume its road safety programme for teachers by August 15, the TCD official told Business Recorder here on Monday.
He said the programme during the final exams at schools had been stopped as teachers were engaged in taking exams, adding now the TCD was considering resuming it by the August 15.
He said the officials from TCD along with Mass Transit and traffic police with the assistance of respective schoolteachers would deliver lectures on road safety codes, and traffic laws at schools in all 18 towns. He said the TCD, Mass Transit and traffic police had fashioned a basic course based on road safety codes and traffic laws to acquaint first schoolteachers and then through them extend it to school children.
He added that around 168 teachers had got road safety training certificates, which was a great achievement.
The official said the programme was aimed to minimise the high ratio of road accidents in the metropolis as 600 people were killed in road accidents every year, out of which 26 per cent children and 52 per cent pedestrians fell victims to road accidents.
