All energy resource being tapped: Shaukat

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said the government was exploring all available resources of energy including thermal, nuclear, hydel, and alternative energy to meet growing needs.
The Prime Minister was talking to CEO and president of AES Lal Pir and the AES General thermal power companies Naveed Ismail, who called on him here at the Prime Minister house.
The Prime Minister said the government is fully cognisant of the vital role played by various sources of energy in the development and growth of a country and is doing necessary planning to ensure energy security for the country in the years and decades to come.
He said energy needs of Pakistan are currently growing by 10-12 percent annually and energy security is critical to maintain growth and competitiveness in the rapidly globalised world.
Naveed Ismail briefed the Prime Minister about the expansion programme of both the companies. The meeting was attended by water and power secretary, petroleum secretary, PPIB managing-director and senior government officials.
