Ivory Coast cocoa prices mixed

12 Jul, 2006

Farmgate prices in Ivory Coast's cocoa growing regions were mixed from July 1 to 9, Coffee and Cocoa Bourse (BCC) data showed on Tuesday, as demand for beans varied by region and as prices rose at the ports.
In the coastal region of San Pedro, the average price rose by 30 CFA francs per kg to 345 in the period and local farmer Labbe Zoungrana said that was due to increasing competition for beans after prices rose at the south-west region's port. "I think buyers made a lot of money last week since they were buying at around 250-300 CFA francs per kg to sell for around 400 CFA at the port," he added.
In the western region of Gagnoa, average prices rose 20 CFA to 330 and co-operative manager Sinali Bakayoko said some local buyers were paying more to farmers to ensure they met their supply obligations.
