A delegation of European Union will arrive here on July 15 to review the progress on the action plan of Pakistan government to improve hygienic conditions at Karachi Fish Harbour.
This was stated at a meeting presided over by the Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Fisheries, Fakir Jaddam Mangrio at the Fishermen's Co-operative Society (FCS) here on Wednesday.
FCS Vice Chairman Haji Ali, directors, officers, union leaders and mole holders also attended the meeting.
The delegation will first visit Islamabad and hold talks with high ups of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal).
On July 18, they will visit various pharmaceutical factories in Karachi and Karachi Fish Harbour. They will visit auction hall, jetty, processing factories to ensure that Pakistan is doing enough to export quality seafood to European countries.
Speaking on the occasion, Jaddam Mangrio said that all the arrangements had been finalised in connection with the visit of the EU delegation.
He said that sanitary conditions at the harbour had been improved in accordance with the international standards and the work to upgrade and renovate the new auction hall K-2 at a cost of Rs 30 million had started. He said this project would be completed by August 15, 2006 with the assurance of high quality.
The project would be executed in accordance with the specifications of experts of United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), which are also consultants for K-2 project.
Talking of boat modification, Mangrio said that no boat owner had approached him for the loan, but if they need the government would arrange for them on concession basis.
He also gave assurance to fishermen that the government would soon announce date for the construction of jetty for small boats.
Later, he inspected the mechanised sweepers to clean harbour area.
