The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Wednesday donated as many as 50 motorcycles to the Punjab police and also promised to convert Race Course Police Station into a model police station by getting it equipped with latest technology besides taking appropriate measures for modernisation of all the city police stations.
Motorcycles were handed over to Additional Inspector General and Capital City Police Chief Khawaja Khalid Farooq at a function held here at LCCI in connection with Business Watch Programme. DIG Operations Amer Zulfiqar and SP Civil Lines Mohammad Habib were also present on the occasion.
LCCI President Mian Shafqat Ali, Senior Vice-President Abdul Basit, Vice-President Aftab Ahmad Vohra and convenor Law and Order Committee Nasrullah Mughal, former presidents Iftikhar Ali Malik and Mian Misbahur Rehman also spoke on the occasion and threw light on various issues, including qabza groups and issuance of fake cheques.
The AIG police said that the law and order situation was prerequisite for the economic well-being of any country and the police is quite conscious of the fact and is taking appropriate measures to bring the crime rate down.
He said that the police was trying to come up to the expectations of people, which are increasing with every passing day as the crime pattern has registered a sharp change.
"Now the criminals are not only equipped with latest weaponry but also have access to most modern technology and the situation could only be controlled with the co-operation of masses," he added.
He observed that certain laws are also coming in the way of police investigations, which should be amended so that the police could be able to get hold of anti-social elements in proper manner. He assured the LCCI office-bearers of his full co-operation in fighting out industry-related crime and crimes against the business community.
Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI president said that deteriorating law and order situation in the country was detrimental to the establishment and growth of the industries but the situation had witnessed a little improvement despite provision of all necessary logistical support.
Talking about the Business Watch Programme, he said that the Programme was initiated to extend maximum co-operation to the police and it includes establishing speedy channels of communication capable of passing quick and accurate information between businesses to keep ahead of criminals.
