Duty waiver on fingerprint capturing devices

14 Jul, 2006

Fingerprint capturing devices could now be imported on payment of zero percent sales tax, says a CBR clarification issued to the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).
The board on Thursday issued instructions to customs collectors that fingerprint capturing devices (PCT 8471.6090) has been excluded from the negative list of Pakistan Customs Tariff (PCT) headings under SRO.530(I)/2006 and SRO.70(I)/2006. Thus, sales tax zero-rating facility would be applicable on this item.
The board had issued a list of items on which sales tax zero-rating was not available at the import stage under SRO.530(I)/2005. The issuance of list has restricted customs officials at ports levying sales tax at the rate of zero percent on only those items, which are covered under the SRO.530(I)/2005.
Thus, the customs would collect 15 percent sales tax on the import of items not entitled to zero-rating as per the negative list.
