Taking a stern note of news items about holding of illegal jirgas in various parts of the province, Sindh Home Minister Abdul Rauf Siddiqui on Thursday ordered the IGP Sindh, in writing, to take immediate action against those convening jirgas.
According to a handout issued here, despite instructions of the home minister to all TPOs of the province to deal severely with those holding jirgas, it was observed that some 53 jirgas were held in the province during the last six months.
These jirgas included those that issued controversial verdicts of giving hands of minor girls in marriage to settle tribal and other disputes.
The home minister expressing his displeasure over the situation asked the IGP to take an immediate action and submit him a detailed report in this regard.
He also took stern notice of news items about gambling dens in jurisdiction of Khaldabad police post under alleged patronage of the police. He asked DIG Operation to take action in this regard and submit him a report.
He also took notice of non-arrest of accused of raping a woman in Korangi and asked the CCPO Karachi to ensure arrest of the accused and send him a detailed report.
