Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) here on Tuesday held public hearing for awarding two FM radio licences at Gilgit and Skardu. People belonging to all walks of life attended the hearing. Shahid Humayun, Executive Member of Pemra informed the participants of the hearing that two FM stations were being launched both at Gilgit and Skardu respectively.
He said the transmission of the FM stations would be heard within 50 kilometre radius and there would be specific equipment not to disturb the waves of others stations in the area.
Reiterating the benefits of the FM channels, he said the channels besides expediting the process of development in the remote areas would educate and entertain the people and ensure employment opportunity to the local people.
He said that Pemra would keep a check on the transmission of the FM radio channels and strictly implement its policy. He said all credentials of the applicant have been duly verified by the federal interior ministry and formalities would be fulfilled before awarding licenses to the applicant.
