The groundbreaking ceremony of country's first Tools, Dies and Moulds (TDM) Centre will be held in Karachi on July 29 (Saturday). The Karachi TDM Centre was being set up by Technology Upgradation and Skill Development Company (TUSDEC) at a cost of Rs 450 million.
According to a spokesman of TUSDEC here on Sunday, the establishment of the centre would help modernise the technologies applied in the development of tools, dies and moulds for the engineering sector.
He hoped that this centre would ultimately serve as an 'Information Technology' based skill development and common facility centre, primarily for providing 'state of the art' training, consultancy, design, manufacturing services and facilities in different areas including sheet metal dies, injection moulds, dies & moulds accessories, reverse engineering, heat treatment and rapid prototyping.
"TDM Centre will train 550 workers annually through hands on experience on 'state of the art' machinery, under the supervision of engineers trained by foreign technicians under various international collaboration agreements," the spokesman said.
The seed money of Rs 450 million for this project has been provided by PIDC through infusion of share capital under a public-private sector partnership and the management of this Centre will be run by a Board of Directors comprised mainly of technocrats and experts from the private sector.
The key beneficiaries of this Centre will include various branches of the engineering industry, mainly rubber, plastic and glass products, etc as well as tele-communications, electronics, aviation, automobile and related autoparts industries.
The spokesman said that KTDMC has already commenced training activities in the fields of Computer Aided Design & Computer Aid Manufacturing, commonly known as CAD & CAM.
"We plan to launch our first 'one year training and skill development program' from January," he said.
