Israeli aggression: Qazi asks Muslim states to quit UN

24 Jul, 2006

Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed has said that if the UN Security Council cannot stop Israeli aggression in Palestine and Lebanon then the Muslim countries must quit membership of this organisation.
Addressing Jamaat-i-Islami workers' convention here on Sunday, he called for convening an urgent meeting of the OIC to review the situation in Palestine and Lebanon and taking concrete steps to stop atrocities there. The Muslim countries should not accept the Israeli domination and should also criticise the role of UN vis-à-vis Muslim world, he observed.
Qazi said that this year JI would observe the Independence Day as 'Youm-e-Nijat', and a big rally would be held at the historic Minar-e-Pakistan on August 14. "Now people have no option except to launch agitation against the rulers," he added.
He said that MMA would not go for any dialogue with the rulers who have already deceived it on the issue of 17th Amendment.
"I may be arrested, or even assassinated, during the agitation, but workers should continue the movement till ouster of the rulers," he stressed. He vowed that he would render all kinds of sacrifices for success of the movement. "We are striving to prepare the nation for a big change in the country," he added.
The MMA chief said that people were dying with hunger while the military rulers, instead of taking steps for poverty alleviation, were spending public money to construct a new GHQ in Islamabad. He also alleged that the government had changed its policy on Kashmir.
