Early completion of Lahore-Wagah road directed

Provincial Minister for Communication & Works, Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-Din Khan has directed the officials of C&W to speed up the pace of work on 4-lane Lahore Wagah Road from Daroghawala to Wagah which would cost Rs 1,341 million.
While presiding over a meeting, here on Thursday, the minister asked the officials to ensure timely completion of this 16-km road. The meeting was informed that an amount of Rs 414.767 million has been spent up to June 2006 while Rs 414.124 million have been earmarked for the current fiscal year. The meeting was further informed that the road would be of 4 lanes while 20 feet wide maiden and 20 feet wide service lanes on both sides of the road would also be constructed.
He further said that Lahore Wagah road would be linked up with Lahore Ring road due to which better travelling facilities would not only be available to the residents of the area but visiting Sikh Yatrees would also be facilitated. He further said that after completion of said road, trade between Pakistan, India and Afghanistan would be increased.
