Senior Presiding Officer City Council Karachi, Masood Mahmood has said that unlike the past, present local government system enjoys legal protection.

He was addressing the Nazims and Naib Nazims from various towns, Talukas and Tehsils of the country, during the visit to City Naib Nazim Secretariat, here on Friday.
Led by Principal MRTI, Mohammed Afzal Arain, they are on a training visit to Karachi under Municipal Research and Training and Institute (MRTI).
Masood Mahmood said City District Government Karachi is the country's only organisation where all the resolutions passed since 1960 are preserved here in book form. He told the delegation that Karachi is Pakistan's highest revenue yielding city, but it does not get its rightful share in return.
He informed that this City had no Master Plan and present Haq Parast leadership, when initiated projects of under-passes and flyovers, came to know that underground water and sewerage lines are passing through in a haphazard manner.
The City Nazim Mustafa Kamal provided each of 18 Towns an amount of Rs 50 million for improvement of water and sewerage lines, he said adding that now because of positive policies of city government, the development process is fast progressing.
Expressing their views, the delegation members said the way Karachi is passing through completion stage of fast development process, had greatly impressed them and they can imagine that its education, health and transport problems will be solved in the coming days.
