Punjab Labour and Human Resource Department has decided to distribute specially designed looms among families associated with the carpet industry so as to empower them economically.
The project worth Rs 700 million would be implemented in Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Multan, Sheikhupura and Faisalabad districts, said Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resource Syed Akhtar Hussain Rizvi while presiding over a departmental meeting here on Friday.
The minister said the government is taking all possible measures to combat child labour in hazardous professions and all forms of bonded labour. Moreover, all out efforts are being carried out to redress the problems of workers attached with carpet industry, he added.
To achieve this goal, he said the department has initiated the project of preparing ergonomic looms at large scale to be provided to those families who earn their leavings through carpet weaving, he added. The model loom which won the best universal award last year at the US is known for its make fit only for elderly persons.
