Political will for education boost stressed

29 Jul, 2006

Absolute political will was required at all levels to make education a top most priority in the country, said participants of a media workshop held at Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development here on Friday.
The two day event arranged in collaboration with European Commission was attended by media personnel, researchers and educationists who reiterated need to promote education on strong lines, with equal focus at the fact that education had to be made a public demand.
Extensively discussing issues as lack of will on part of all concerned stake holders to promote education, inadequate funding, quality of education the participants agreed that education was a basic issue needing concerted efforts to be boosted at both rural and urban areas, without any prejudice and distinction.
Highlighting the role media could play in modifying attitudes, participants agreed that there was urgent need to develop constant and close co-ordination among relevant stake holders and media - motivating masses and creating need for education, acknowledged to be a basic right in all other parts of the world.
