Indian help in Madressahs reform: media reports termed baseless

30 Jul, 2006

Pakistan High Commission to India on Saturday described media reports that Islamabad has asked for advice and help regarding the education system in madrassas of West Bengal (India) as "baseless and incorrect".
The spokesman of the Pak High Commission in a press release "strongly denied reports carried by the media quoting West Bengal Government (India) that Pakistan has asked for advice and help regarding their education system in the religious institutions (Madrassas) and wants to replicate it."
The spokesman stated, "such reports are baseless and incorrect." The fact of the matter is that High Commission, on a newspaper report published in India stating that in madrassas of West Bengal, Muslim, Christian and Hindu students were studying together, had asked for details for its information, the spokesman added.
Asking for detailed information does not mean that the Government of Pakistan intends to seek help and wants to replicate the programme, said the Spokesman.
