31 Jul, 2006

Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) secretary-general and leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said President Pervez Musharraf wants to change syllabus at the behest of USA but the MMA will not allow him to do so.
Addressing a Tahfuz-e-Madaris Arabia conference on Sunday, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said changes were being made in the educational curriculum under the US pressure but the MMA has made it clear to the government that they would not accept it at any cost.
He warned the government against challenging seminaries' certificates in the Supreme Court or other courts and clarified that the government could not blackmail them on any issue.
He said Sardars and the federal government were involved in Balochistan backwardness and noted only the MMA could break the Sardari system.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman accused the government of not taking the Council of Islamic Ideology seriously and ignoring its decisions.
