The City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has formed a committee to ascertain the reasons behind the rainwater accumulation at Schon Circle, Teen Talwar, Bath Island and adjacent areas.
Inspecting the situation at Schon Circle, emerged in the wake of recent continued monsoon rains in the city here on Thursday, he apprised the newsmen that the committee would be led by a private senior engineer and an expert consultant to trace the roots of the problem.
On the occasion, District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Fazl-ur-Rehman, MD Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) Brigadier Iftikhar Haider, Nazim Clifton town Mohammad Dilawar, and senior city government officials were present.
City Nazim hoped rainwater from Teen Talwar and its adjacent areas would be flushed out within 24 hours as two drains on emergency basis had also been constructed for this purpose.
He said without giving prior information to the city government, multi-storied building had been constructed in the area and their pillars had been erected inside the Nehr-e-Khayaam which choked it and stopped its smooth water-flow to have resulted in this gave situation. He said 18 machines have been installed to pull out water from the entire area while several other fire tenders have also been deployed in this regard.
