Heavy rains lashed Sialkot and its many adjoining areas on Friday resultantly several low-lying areas submerged in rainwater. The rains have also destroyed the city sewerage system and many busy roads.
Including College road, Railway road, Kutchary road, Abbott road and Chowk Allama Iqbal submerged in rainwater and overflowing sewage and the citizens were facing serious hardships.
Meanwhile, Sialkot district government has chalked out a foolproof flood-fighting plan to cope with any eventuality during the monsoon season. Official sources told Business Recorder that the district had been divided into 18 sectors and 35 sub-sectors, while 31 relief camps had also been set up in the district.
Apart from that 11 relief centres in Sialkot, 7 in Daska, 8 in Pasrur and 5 in Sambrial have been set up. In addition to this protective embankments of seasonal nullahs had been repaired for protecting the Sialkot City.
The sources revealed that district flood control centre had also been set up, which would be functioning round the clock. According to district flood control office all seasonal nullahs passing through the district are flowing normal. Local Met office had recorded 43 MM rain in Sialkot.
