Speaking at the project commencement ceremony of Korangi Creek Industrial Park (KCIP) on July 30 2006, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said that to have a place in the international market there is a need to promote the local industrial activity and noted that in Pakistan one major challenge is to identify a location and then a piece of land to set up an industrial unit.
At the same time, where an industrial unit has been planned, infrastructure and utility services are also needed.
The same day, speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the international exhibition "My Karachi - Oasis of harmony", organised by the KCCI at the Expo Centre he urged the private sector to capitalise on the investment opportunities being created by the government in the country.
The Prime Minister said that it was the duty of the government to provide an enabling environment to the private sector.
Perhaps the Prime Minister would do well to check up on the plight of SMEs, which have been waiting for possession of industrial plots in the S.I.T.E Super Highway Phase allotted more than three years ago.
Prime Minister, the SME private sector is waiting to do its part, but will the public sector deliver on your promise to provide an enabling environment to the private sector. Therein lies the test of your commitment and we will all see the results.
