Eliminating extremism

06 Aug, 2006

There should be a two-pronged strategy to eliminate extremism from Pakistan. First I would request the government of Pakistan to start an education programme on a war footing in the NWFP, FATA and northern Balochistan, because most of terrorism and sectarian violence emerge from these under-developed areas.
The Taliban are trying to stabilise themselves in these areas and if they are not controlled the people of Pakistan have to face what they fear "Talibanization."
Secondly, the government has to concentrate on creating jobs in FATA, especially where most of the Taliban live. The extremist thoughts of the people in this region emerged because of illiteracy and unemployment.
If the government is able to eliminate these two things, they will be able to eradicate sectarian violence in Pakistan.
