PML-N seeks OIC assembly session on Lebanon

07 Aug, 2006

The Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) pressed the government on Sunday to make its best efforts to call an emergency session of the OIC General Assembly to broker an immediate cease-fire in Lebanon.
In a statement, former finance minister and PML-N Additional Secretary General Iqbal Dar said the declaration of Putrajaya OIC emergency summit marks important step, but there is need to take more steps in order to seek end to Israeli aggression.
He said the target of Israeli aggression was the civilian population of Lebanon not any armed force and added that the Israeli aggression was a clear case of crimes against humanity.
Iqbal Dar said that UN Security Council had failed in fulfilling its obligations as provided in the UN charter. The Muslim countries should not waste any moment in calling for a General Assembly emergency session to take up the issue regarding Israel aggression. He emphasised that the Muslim countries can make a convincing case for the world community.
The General Assembly, he said, should not only call for a cease-fire in Lebanon, but it should also hold a world conference on Middle East as there was dire need of intervention of the world community.
