Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV), a national family channel, earned a cash profit of Rs 5 million from PTV popular and professional awards held recently in Karachi and Lahore.
Talking to APP on Sunday, PTV Managing Director, Muhammad Ashraf Azim said the PTV had spent Rs 14 million on holding both the mega events and earned a total revenue of Rs 19 million showing Rs 5 million profit.
He said such events would continue to take place on different occasions, as PTV possesses talent to produce best quality dramas and programmes for the entertainment, education and information of the viewers.
He said that all previous commitments made prior to his induction as MD for the private productions would be honoured. However, new drama serials and programmes would be produced by the PTV high profile professionals who are second to non in the country.
He said that PTV, a mother television channel, following the "Broaden Vision" envisaged by Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Muhammad Ali Durrani, has offered Independence Day celebration programmes free of cost to private channels.
He said that Federal Information Secretary, Shahid Rafi who is also PTV Chairman has adopted liberal policy based on larger national interest to provide assistance and professional expertise to private channels to take part in the celebrations of Independence Day ceremonies by telecasting PTV special programmes free of cost.
He said that PTV would bear production expenses of these programmes but not charge even a single penney from private channels.
He said this goodwill gesture had been shown by the federal ministry to create healthy competition atmosphere in the country and promote electronic media.
Muhammad Ashraf Azim said that PTV has launched colourful special transmissions on the Independence Day celebrations 'Mera Pakistan', which would continue till March 23 next.
He said the government would extend full co-operation to the private media for the coverage of the Independence Day events.
He said the federal information minister had introduced new traditions of inter-dependency between public and private media organisations and this trend would further strengthen the freedom of the press.
The MD said the PTV and private TV channels would go hand-in-hand in celebrating the Independence Day. He said PTV would telecast special programmes regarding the Independence Day as the nation was celebrating centenary celebrations of the Pakistan Muslim League.
He said the PTV documentaries would also highlight the sacrifices and services of Quaid-e-Azam and his companions. He said the PTV would also celebrate Azadi Week in Azad Kashmir from August 10 to 18 and PTV AJK television centre would be inaugurated by the AJK prime minister on August 10, which was destroyed in October last earthquake.
Ashraf Azim said PTV World would also launch its programmes with a new look. He said PTV programmes regarding the Independence Day were a part of PTV traditions. He said these programmes would infuse new spirit among the Pakistanis.
He said best documentary, drama, other events covered and telecast from all centres during the independence day celebration would be given cash awards.
