General Motors' vehicle sales in Europe fell 1.6 percent in July, led lower by the Opel brand, but GM still gained market share, the world's biggest carmaker said on Monday. GM sold 156,680 cars and vans in Europe last month, improving its market share to 9.1 percent from 9.0 percent in July 2005, it said.
Sales of its volume Opel/Vauxhall brands retreated 4.6 percent to 120,749 vehicles, despite a July rise in Vauxhall sales and market share in Britain, the brand's home market. Opel/Vauxhall sales fell 3.1 percent in the first seven months to 976,368 units.
