Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) has restored 95 percent electricity supply in the flood-hit Mardan city. The company has sustained millions of rupees loss in the affected area and about 100 transformers, more than 200 poles and hundreds of kilometers long conductor/cable had been severely damaged.
Chief Executive Pesco immediately after receiving information of flood at Mardan constituted a task force for rehabilitation work in the city and its suburban areas and supervised the rescue operation in flood hit area.
Heavy-duty generators were rushed to the area to provide light for the rescue work, which was successfully completed and now these heavy-duty generators have been given under the supervision of Public Health Engineering department and district government for provision of the drinking water to the people of the affected areas.
Chief Executive Brigadier Sakhi Marjan has appreciated the co-operation of District Nazim Mardan and said that due to the hard work of the company, we have been able to restore the electricity in the most parts of Mardan. There are now only few places left where Pesco's Rescue and Restoration teams are still working.
He disclosed that as precautionary measures, Pesco switched off the power immediately after the flood hit Mardan to prevent possible casualties by electric shocks.
He informed that a Flood Relief Management cell has been established at Wapda House Peshawar for quick and vigilant response to natural disasters. Furthermore the centre would also provide help for the redress of electricity problems in the flood-affected areas.
