City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal on Tuesday said that steps were being taken for draining out rainwater on permanent basis from Bath Island, Teen Talwar roundabout and adjoining areas.
"The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has started the work in this regard on emergent basis," he told while speaking on Monday night during his visit to a storm water drain being constructed by CDGK near Schon Circle.
City Nazim remained there till 6 am to supervise the work. Town Nazim, Saddar, Dilawar Khan, Managing Director, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), Brigadier Iftikhar Haider, EDO Works & Services, Syed Sarfaraz Ali Shah and other officials were also present.
Mustafa Kamal said there existed a 4ft wide drain for the rainwater but the people, during the construction of bungalows, closed it and laid 15" diameter sewerage line that could not drain out the water of such a heavy rainfall. "We now have started work on rehabilitating the old drain as it could be a permanent solution of the problem." In the meantime, the CDGK had made temporary drain to discharge the rainwater accumulated there.
